Recently, Congress found that the storage of strategically located spare large power transformers and emergency mobile substations will reduce the vulnerability of the United States to multiple risks facing electric grid reliability, including physical attack, cyber attack, electromagnetic pulse, geomagnetic disturbances, severe weather, and seismic events. As a result, H.R. 22, the “Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act” (FAST Act), includes several measures aimed at firming the U.S. electric grid against a variety of attacks and outages. The legislation was signed into law in December 2015, and is intended to develop a strategic reserve of transmission equipment, including transformers and Emergency Mobile Substations. To assist with compliance of this important piece of legislation, Avail is proud to offer Emergency Mobile Substations that are available fully assembled and permanently mounted on a trailer that is capable of highway travel and meets relevant Department of Transportation regulations and; Is intended for express deployment and capable of being rapidly placed into service.
